The Highway Division at A-Core performs a multitude of heavy highway, airport, airbase and commercial concrete cutting and sealing projects. From existing roadways, runways, and rehabilitation, to new roadways, department of transportation, Federal Aviation Airports and city projects. With an average of 11 years experience throughout the entire A-Core Highway Division, we will always have the right experience on the job.
All control joint sealants have an expiration date. Once that date expires, the joint seal will begin to break down and allow water or debris into the joint. That joint seal needs to be removed and replaced allowing the concrete to last for years or decades. Our highway division has ride it saws which are mobile driven machines, and specific concrete blades that allow us to quickly get the old sealant removed and ready for new seal to be installed.
Joint sealing is the process of installing silicone based sealant or hot tar sealant into the control joint. When a control joint is cut into a green/new concrete slab, the concrete will crack at those cuts. When water or debris get into the cuts, damage will occur to the concrete limiting its life. By sealing the control joints, we can increase the life of the concrete keeping you driving on smooth and safe roadways.
Green Sawing is a process required on most concrete slabs shortly after it has poured. Once concrete has started the curing process, or once it starts to get hard, it is going to crack. By cutting the concrete before it is “hard”, we are controlling the cracking of that slab. There is a small window of opportunity to make these cuts in a new slab, too soon will cause issues and too late will cause cracking where it is not desired. A-Core has the knowledge, experience, and equipment to make a green slab look great and last for years or decades.
A-Core has the people and equipment to be able to cut any slab depth. Deep Sawing is when we are required to spin blades up to 60” diameter on a flat saw or deep ride it saw, to cut through that slab. This allows for a much easier and safer demolition process to get those slabs removed and replaced.
A slab panel is the squares on the concrete created during the green sawing process. Occasionally, it makes more sense to remove panels vs. removing the entire slab. A-Core has the ability to sawcut the panels using a deep saw, remove the panels, and get them replaced at any airport or freeway.
